About Cycling Sisters

The Cycling Sisters is a women's cycling group in Chicago.  Our mission is to increase the number of women who ride bicycles for transportation, and to increase the confidence and comfort of women cyclists.  We hold regular workshops on bicycle maintenance and repair, as well as rides, social get-togethers and other activities.  Check out the event calendar.

10,000 miles by Keri

2 miles into my commute home tonight I will hit 10,000 on my
cyclometer! I figured if anyone in the world would understand my
great joy at this, you will also be a reader of this listserve :)

Some of those miles were spent on the most gorgeous of days when the
wind was at my back, the temperature perfect, the lake deep blue, the
air clear, the sun shining, and the joggers not awake yet. Some of
those miles were spent with my head down slogging through strong
headwinds, heart pounding as I counted the seconds between a streak

Fix a Flat workshop

The Cycling Sisters routinely host fix-a-flat workshops to encourage cyclists to get out on their bikes (and overcome their fears of being stranded with a flat!).

These are the notes from our workshop held last summer at Blackstone Bicycle Works.

note: contact repto@aol.com for a pdf. form of the notes

Pregnant Cyclists Unite!

As a formerly pregnant cyclist, I'd like to share my thoughts on this topic.

I rode up until one day before the birth of my third child. I rode most days, typically about 8 miles, in my commute to and from Montessori school as well as running errands. I towed two kids in a trailer during the ride (a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old).

Lest you think I was some sort of wonder woman, I am not. I am fat, middle-aged, and "Suburban."
